My google notes

Google earth

Create guided tours- look at summercore website. You can also create your own. Photos constantly updated.
On LHS search area-

Top area – fly through

Bottom area -layers.
It has transparent overlays. The bottom piece constantly changes. To turn off the layers, click on primary database.
Suggest Open 3D buildings and street view . Also has new weather. Also turn on the radar. Tells you where clouds are- amount of precipitation within clouds. Red= more precipitation.

As you zoom out you do not see all the information.
Borders and labels
You can have too many layers. You can turn off.
In gallery
Global awareness layers- about Darfur, animals in extinction etc. There are constant overlays. You don’t have to have all the layers on. Double click to get more information.

Middle section- places
Guided tours here. KML- keynote markup language.
The Odyssey- a guided tours. Press play- troy
I could save this!
Bayeux taperstry. If too fast you can pause- Google Earth menu go to preferences- to touring tab. Check on “show balloon when tour is paused”. Tour paused use dial to pause. If you don’t want the tour you can also go as a slideshow by clicking on each one.
eg. French lesson in France
Scavenger hunt- a variety of places in Paris. Had to find a cinema. Use “find businesses”. Many have little reviews. Will connect to a website. Can take you to google maps when you click on each areas.
eg. Egypt and the pyramids
*We have the great exchange- Peggy her website.
There are examples of Google sketchup. Takes me into the tomb.
Many tours available eg. Shakespeare, Joyce, . Several ways to find them. Earth.google.com. When there “the gallery” . Many files uploaded. Constantly changing. The other way is: google, advanced search, file type, Microsoft Powerpoint.ppt. Also restrict to a kml or a kmz file-run the search twice if you want each.
So: in the advanced search put in your words then file type then click on kml. Then click on advanced search on bottom right hand side. Control key click to download and choose save link as. Then I can download it. It automatically goes into my places in google earth. Automatically opens google earth, too.

Press Saturn sign -turns into google sky. From wherever you are, you can see the sky you would see.

Today was quite interesting. I enjoyed working on the wiki and setting up google reader ( though wish I had not spent time setting up Bloglines last night). Still, the rss feed is interesting and think I will benefit from it. The excel work, though well taught, was just not that relevant to an arts teacher. Maybe Matt could have worked with us on something else?

I feel confused about the “fair use and the web”. If I am using a keynote with image in a lesson do I need to get permission? It seems to be a difficult issue. I would love clear guidelines from the school. Could we post these in public places for students and teachers?

Homework for Tuesday

Today was really long…. but I really enjoyed learning about this blog and delicious. We also looked at tabs and image placement in word documents. I now know that a megabyte is equivalent to the amount in a Harry Potter novel! As I was reading “The order of the Phoenix” to my son just an hour ago, I reflected on this! Being British, the sports stuff is a little lost on me – but I admire your enthusiasm! Thanks for a great beginning to the week. It is great to have the time to explore some of these lovely offerings.

My homework

It was great to read basic information on what to expect on the course. I went straight to the section on web 2.0 and was delighted to read that we would be looking at voice thread etc. As I teach Photoshop, I was also interested to see how you tackled outlining the basics. I can’t wait to start applying the tools!

Look what I can do!
